Due to tornadoes in the Austin, Texas area, the flight that was carrying the Austin Elite Rugby was grounded. Austin’s executives attempted to find an alternative way of getting to Toronto but were unable to do so. Therefore, the match between the Toronto Arrows and Austin Elite Rugby on April 14th was postponed. On Thursday morning the Arrows and MLR announced that the game would be rescheduled for Thursday, May 9th, 2019 at 7pm. As originally planned, the game will still take place at York Alumni Stadium.
The game will take place during Austin’s week 16 bye week, meaning the postponed game essentially became their 2nd bye week. For the Arrows; they are now faced with a challenging task of playing 3 games in just 7 days. The Arrows will take on the San Diego Legion on May 5th, Austin Elite on May 9th, and the Utah Warriors on May 12th. This gives them just 3 and 2 days off between the games. After this stretch they will receive their final bye week followed by two key matches against Glendale and RUNY to close out the year. 3 games in 7 days is a tough task for a rugby team. It will be interesting to see how Mark Winokur, Chris Silverthorn, and their staff decide to handle the lineups and the player’s workloads during this time.
For the fans, if you purchased ticket to the original April 14th game, you will still be able to use those on May 9th. However, if you are unable to attend you can contact the Arrows who are offering both exchange and refund options.
