I was almost having withdrawals after being BLESSED with 3 fight cards in 7 days just a couple weeks ago, but here we are back in the saddle again! Like a lot of cards to come this one was pieced together as best as possible, but let's be honest, not a lot of big names stepping in the octagon tonight. This one is the equivalent of a Browns-Bucs Thursday nighter, I'll watch, but only because there isn't anything else on.
But hey, I'm not going to complain, with all that's going on right now, a less than mediocre card is the least of society's concerns. On with the fisticuffs!
Gilbert Burns vs Tyron Woodley
At first I thought this was a fight between a former champ trying to regain his status and young, surging fighter. Turns out Burns has been in the UFC for 6 years and is 33 years old. So out goes the old vs young storyline. To be frank, I don't think Burns has the fire power to beat a motivated Woodley. Despite a breakout win over Maia...it's Maia, and to be even more frank, he's a step down from Leon Edwards IMO.
If Woodley's head is in the game then he'll win. More power, better wrestling, obviously more explosive, I don't see many ways for Burns to win. However, if Tyron is flat, then Gilbert may just be able to squeak one out. I'm not counting on it though.
Prediction: Tyron Woodley, 2nd RD TKO
Augusto Sakai vs Blagoy Ivanov
Listen, I'm not saying the start of this fight would be a good time to make sure all your affairs are in order for the main event, but I wouldn't blame you if that was your mindset. Sakai does seem to be the more likely of the two to make noise in the HW division he's the more compelling pick, it's a true pick em fight though, Ivanov is a durable dude. Just hope this one isn't a stinker.
Prediction: Augusto Sakai, Decision
Billy Quarantillo vs Spike Carlyle
This is a battle of names right here. Quarantillo vs"The Alpha Ginger"....Really? The jokes just write themselves! This fight has all the makings to steal the show, but as a man who also has no soul (Ginger joke) I'll stick with my pasty brethren
Prediction: Spike Carlyle, Decision
Roosevelt Roberts vs. Brok Weaver
Another "meh" fight. Weaver missed weight and won via DQ his last time out despite firmly losing at the time of the incident. Roberts is the better overall fighter, but this would a be a great fight for Weaver to prove a lot of the naysayers wrong.
Prediction: Roosevelt Roberts, Decision
Mackenzie Dern vs. Hannah Cifers
Cifers is a big underdog in this one, so naturally one wants to cheer for her, but everything is working against her. Dern is the bigger of the two and is just flat way better than Cifers on the mat. Like way better. If Cifers can keep it standing then I think fortune may favour her, but I just don't think she has the arsenal to keep Dern off of her.
Prediction: 2nd RD SUB
