Blaydes - Volkov was a testament of doing too much too soon. Blaydes looked dominant early on, but gassed in the late stages of the fight. "Razor" still got the nod but didn't impress like he had hoped, story of my life. Our headliner in this rendition of the UFC on ESPN showcases two 155ers that can go for days! Sure, it showcases just two ranked fighters on the card, but there certainly isn't a lack of star power being showcased. Let's predict fights shall we.
Dan Hooker vs Dustin Poirier
THIS. FIGHT. WILL. BE. A. DANDY. Hooker is living up to his last name, mowing through guys and getting paid to do it. That Felder victory was massive for the Kiwi, while Poirier is coming off a very lopsided loss to Khabib. However, the gap between Khabib and everyone else is so large I credit Dustin for at least making "The Eagle" work before the inedible happened.
Still, Poirier is the favourite and probably for good reason. Felder gave Hooker heaps of trouble, and one could say Poirier is a better version of the UFC colour man. It can't be understated how big Hooker is for the division, and you have to wonder where Dustin's head is after such a destructive loss, but no one has ever won after beating Felder and I think that streak continues. Fight of the year candidate right here.
Prediction: Dustin Poirier, 2nd RD TKO
Mickey Gall vs Mike Perry
Listen you come because of the main event but you stay because of Mike Perry. He is simply THE most interesting man in the UFC and has a juicy matchup to get back in the win column. No offence to Gall, but he simply is nothing more than cannon fodder in this matchup. He is best known for beating CM Punk and Sage Northcutt, the resume just doesn't stack up.
You can't overlook the fact that Perry will have only his girlfriend helping him in his corner, which is probably not smart. But he is riding a two fight losing steak so if this shakes off the rust then maybe more fighters turn to their spouse for fighting advice! We may just get Till - Perry after all.
Prediction: Mike Perry, 1st RD TKO
Maurice Greene vs Gian Villante
Both guys haven't looked great lately, but it was nice see they were friendly at weigh-ins. That's all I got for this fight. Crochet Boss for the win.
Prediction: Maurice Green, Decision
Brendan Allen vs Kyle Daukaus
Allen's only losses come at a time where he was much younger and rawer than he is now. Also, those losses came outside of the UFC to guys who are now competing in the UFC, so he belongs. The major question is does Kyle Daukaus belong? With Allen's grappling ability I'm willing to bet no.
Prediction: Brendan Allen, Decision
Tanner Boser vs Phillipe Lins
Lins was riding high in the PFL and decided to test his metal against the UFC's best, for his debut he was handed Andre Arlovski, tough fight. Yes he lost but he didn't look all that bad, he just got beat by one of the greats, I think he'll learn from that. Plus, Boser is just so many notches below Arlovski that if he doesn't win then he really had no place being so highly praised to begin with.
Prediction: Phillipe Lins, 1st RD TKO
Julian Erosa vs Sean Woodson
How in the hell are these guys Featherweights? They are huge! However, they are not closely matched as Woodson is the far more polished fighter in pretty much every facet of the game. Erosa is tough, but he just doesn't have the skills to keep up.
Prediction: Sean Woodson, 2nd RD TKO
