SC's Alley's 2019 Predictions
2019 is just beginning and every year unpredictable things happen in the crazy world of sports, just when you think you have all the answers something comes out of nowhere when you least expect it. In this article, I will predict the events that will happen even if it sounds a little far fetched.
Cleveland Browns Win The AFC North
Forget about just making the playoffs, the Cleveland Browns have a chance at taking the top spot in their division. The Browns haven’t made the playoffs since 2002, it’s the longest active postseason drought in the league, but winning their division hasn’t happened since before I was born in 1989. The Jacksonville Jaguars, Carolina Panthers, and Houston Texans weren’t in the league yet. With Baker Mayfield being a rookie of the year candidate, and the defense showing some ferociousness, the Browns will take over the division. Sure, Baltimore might have gotten hot in the latter part of the season to capture the AFC North, but they are old. Pittsburgh has too much drama and losing Le'veon Bell (and possibly Antonio Brown) will knock the Steelers a few pegs down, and the Cincinnati Bengals will be rebuilding in 2019. Next year belongs to the Browns.
Giannis Antetokounmpo wins NBA MVP
If there’s someone that has improved greatly the last few seasons it’s Giannis. Since coming into the league, his stats have gotten better and better in every category each season and has become one of the best players in the league. He’s currently averaging a double-double and isn't afraid to get his team involved putting up over 6 assists a game. The man is leading the team in points, assists, rebounds, and steals, he’s also second on the team in blocks, and the Bucks are first in the East largely due to the play of the Greek Freak. He's established himself as the most valuable player in the league.
A Canadian Team Will Play In The Stanley Cup Final
1993 was the last time a Canadian team has won the Stanley Cup, and 2011 was the last time a Canadian Team played for the Cup. 4 times this century a Canadian team has played Lord Stanley, and three of those teams have even gone to game 7 in the Finals. As of now the Winnipeg Jets, Toronto Maple Leafs and Calgary Flames have the best odds going to finals.
The young Toronto Maple Leafs have played good hockey. If Fredrik Andersen can be consistent in the playoffs and make game-saving saves, Toronto could go very far with the roster they have. Calgary has skill players that opposing teams need to watch out for, their defense doesn't give up many goals, and that makes for a solid recipe for success. Last season Winnipeg made it the furthest losing to the expansion Vegas Golden Knights in the Western Conference Finals. The Jets have some questions in net with Connor Hellebyuck, he's been mediocre at best this season but if he could get his level of play to where it was last season the Jets will have to be the favorite in the West. Toronto will have Tampa and the defending Cup champs the Washington Capitals in their way, while Calgary and Winnipeg will have Nashville and Vegas to worry about.
Becky Lynch, Ronda Rousey Will Main Event Wrestlemania
An all Female Main Event has never happened at WrestleMania. Well, that will change this year. The last few Wrestle mania main events have been lackluster at best, with Roman Reigns’ main eventing the last 4 Manias. WWE hasn’t done much to get fans excited, and Reigns' feuds with HHH and the Undertaker weren't earth-shattering, neither The Game or the Dead Man should be main eventing at this point in their careers. Unfortunately, with Roman Reigns battling leukemia the main event is wide open and this gives the women's division a chance to make a bigger statement. Ronda vs Becky is fresh and new. It’s something that will give fans excited to watch and not have them sitting on their hands during the match. Both women are main event players and WrestleMania is the perfect spot to put these two face to face in the ring. The Baddest Woman On The Planet vs The Man will have a clash that many will be talking about for years to come.
Tiger Woods Wins A Major
Tiger Woods did something last year that he hasn’t accomplished since 2013, and that was win pro golf tournament. His last major win was over a decade ago at the British Open. Last year in Atlanta Tiger Woods earned his 80th PGA tour victory at the Tour Championship. Woods showed some flashes of his old self and was cruising with a 3 stroke lead heading to the final round. Woods never looked back after and won by two strokes. With Woods dealing with ailing back and leg injuries in recent years, it seemed like Tiger would never play golf again. But now being healthy and in a good state of mind, one of the best golfers ever could snag a major this year. Woods putting has shown improvements. His swing seems the most stable it's been in years, and a healthy Tiger Woods is always in the hunt for a victory. We all might be taking a closer look at Jack Nicklaus’s 18 majors.
Rookie All Star
It might be a little out of reach that Vladimir Guererro Jr makes it to the all-star game in his first season. There’s still no word on if he starts the season with the big club, and last year Toronto didn’t bother calling up the any of their high-end prospects. The Blue Jays are being patient with Vladdy Jr. , and once he gets the call-up, he will be a hitter that can do some serious damage. If he plays great in Spring Training than Toronto will be hard pressed not to have him stay with the big club. Guererro Jr. will cause pitchers a lot of issues, last year Guererro Jr hit over .400 In double-A and over .330 In triple-A. His progression has been impressive. Cody Bellinger was the last rookie to make it to the summer classic in 2017, and Vladdy Jr will look to replicate that feat. Guererro Jr will be an all-star in 2019.
The Championship Of The North
The Toronto Raptors will be the first non-American team to win the Larry O'Brien trophy. Toronto is currently fighting for the top spot in the East with Milwaukee, but Philly and Boston will be a test for the Dinos as well. Toronto had a less than stellar month of December, but the Raptors have been facing injuries with their star players like Kyle Lowry, Kawhi Leonard, and Jonas Valanciunas all missing time. That’s more than half of their starting rotation. If the Raptors can get back to full health they’re a team that’s going to be hard to stop. Of course, you can’t forget about the Golden State Warriors but even they're not playing good basketball. The Raptors have the depth and defensive schemes that can stop big offenses at times. Nick Nurse knows how to match his players up against Golden State’s lineup and its worked to perfection...so far. Toronto besting the Warriors will become a reality in June.
