UFC Fight Night: Blaydes vs Volkov Predictions

Source: MMA Junkie

Last week we were treated to the UFC's equivalent of a pigs trough. Just an out and out awful card that gave us very little to be excited about BUT, I will say that it outperformed expectations so maybe that should teach me a lesson about being a prissy little bitch, probably won't though. Nonetheless, we've got quite a few fights to look forward to in this weeks edition of UFC Fight Night, so let's hop to it.

Curtis Blaydes vs Alexander Volkov

One might think that Blaydes' career has been defined by his losses to Francis Ngannou, and that would be the correct thinking, but the talented wrestler has a chance to extend his winning streak to 4 against the very tall Volkov and put himself squarely into the title picture (once again). Volkov really hasn't shown much in the octagon besides being able to exude output, that may help him here but I don't think it'll be enough.

This is basically a guy who throws a lot versus a guy who has devastating ground and pound, as well as a crushing top game. I think I'll bet on Blaydes here.

Prediction: Curtis Blaydes, 2nd RD TKO

Shane Burgos vs Josh Emmett

2019 was a massive year for both of these Featherweights. Burgos got career wins over Swanson and Amirkhani, and Emmett bounced back from his Stephens KO by putting the lights out on both Michael Johnson and Mirsad Bektic. You can't sleep on either of these guys, and the likelihood for violence in this one is great.

To me, I like Emmett in this contest because of his power and Burgos' tendency to relax defensively. Don't get me wrong, I think Burgos is the better striker all-around, but Emmett has looked much improved since reeling in his blind aggression tactics. I think a bonus or two will be handed out in this one.

Prediction: Josh Emmett, 2nd RD TKO

Raquel Pennington vs Marion Reneau

The genetics that Reneau possesses is wild! At 43, she is doing things (like running and jumping) that a young and sprite man like myself only dreams of. However, she's 43. Age is just a number, but father time is undefeated and I think Pennington's ability to keep pace from start to finish will be the decider. However if Reneau can overwhelm "Rocky" with her athleticism then maybe she snaps her losing streak.

This is very much a "we'll see" kind've of fight, so I guess we'll see.

Prediction: Raquel Pennington, Decision

Lyman Good vs Belal Muhammed

Oof what a tough fight to predict, neither man has any overwhelming advantages here. Good has the power but Muhammed is the more active fighter, neither are really known for their grappling so more than likely this one will remain standing. I think if Belal can dictate the pace then he'll be able to edge it out, and given Good's tendency to lose tough fights I think the trend may continue.

I'm not putting Muhammed on the same level as prime Askren, or Koreshkov, but there is something about his game that I think can keep Good at bay. This is a toss up tbh.

Prediction: Belal Muhammed, Decision

Jim Miller vs Roosevelt Roberts

Roberts looked awesome in last outing against Brok Weaver and I think he can carry that momentum in this fight, and if we're being honest, Miller hasn't had a noteworthy win in about 6 years. Height, reach, youth, I like Roberts in this one.

Prediction: Roosevelt Roberts, Decision
