UFC Fight Night: Lewis vs Oleinik Predictions

Source: Chris Unger/Zuffa LLC

Oh August, a month that usually amounts to the dog days of summer in the sports world suddenly has us sitting on the edge of our seat, and normally I would loath a card like this but I'm trying to stay positive. I'm looking at UFC Vegas 6 like it's the calm before the storm, given what's on tap for next weekend. So here we are, one week away from DC and Stipe 3, let's just get through this one shall we.

Derek Lewis vs Aleksei Oleinik

This fight is between two big maulers with very little cardio, and when the fight is supposed to last 25 minutes I feel like the clock will be each sides biggest enemy. Both are coming off rather "meh" wins if I do say so myself, but the fact is most of the fireworks in this fight will come early, so the question is who fires first?

I feel like many have their minds made up that Lewis will win this fight, but I'm not so sure. Oleinik has much improved standup and is the far superior grappler. Let's face it, Lewis looks like a bag of bricks when he's on his back. So I'm going for the upset here. But, it's either gonna go out with a bang, or a very long and tragic end. For all of our sakes I hope it's the former.

Prediction: Aleksei Oleinik, 2nd RD SUB

Omari Akhmedov vs Chris Weidman

If this fight was 5 years ago I'd have zero doubt in my mind that Weidman would take home the W, however the latter half of the 10s was just borderline sad. At least all of his losses have come to guys at the top of the division, but the way he's been losing just isn't good for his long-term health. I just don't think he's there mentally anymore, and Omari doesn't seem to waver in that department at all.

Prediction: Omari Akhmedov, Decision

Maki Pitolo vs Darren Stewart

Physically these guys are similar, style wise they are also fairly similar, so what gives? Well, Darren Stewart goes by the "The Dentist", a very modest, and wholesome profession to lean on, but Pitolo on the other hand rides with "COCONUT BOMBZ"!!! I don't even care what the meaning behind it is lol, easy decision for me, Bombz away baby!

Prediction: Maki COCONUT BOMBZ Pitolo, Decision

Yana Kunitskaya vs Julija Stoliarenko

These two ladies combined have seem to have every letter in the alphabet accounted for between the two, and I like that. Julija's last appearance in the octagon was a loss, but here she is riding a 5-fight win streak. I don't know if you really compare the resumes here, because clearly Yana's is far superior, but I wonder if recent success will play a part in how this one roles out.

I like Julija and her ground game, but I believe in Yana's success against better competition more.

Prediction: Yana Kunitskaya, Decision

Beneil Dariush vs Scott Holzman

The Rogan golden boy Dariush is coming in steaming hot but really hasn't made it look at all easy. Luckily for him he faces a guy in Holtzman who I don't think presents much of a threat. Where ever this fight goes I look towards Beneil to dictate the pace.

Prediction: Beneil Dariush, Decision
