UFC Fight Night: Smith vs Rakic Predictions

A little vacation can do the body wonders, but now I'm back! Admittedly I missed quite the card last week as Frankie Edgar narrowly edged out Pedro Munhoz in a back and forth fracas, and no matter who you thought won it was quite the tilt. This week has an exciting main event on tap as well as we have two long and rangy strikers who are both desperate for a win. Also....WAR LAWLER!

Aleksander Rakic vs Anthony Smith

To me, this fight will be decided by who leads. Smith seems confident that he is better than Rakic in every aspect of the fight game, but I'm not so sure that's the case. Unless he catches Rakic early it's going to be a grind to get the big man out of there and Smith isn't exactly known for his gas tank. However, Rakic hasn't exactly proven himself at this level, so this is a toss-up.

If Smith can space out his attacks rather than gassing himself with his quick bursts of big attacks than he'll have a great chance of winning a decision, but let's face it, that's not his game. Rakic has the tools to compete with Smith, and honestly, after Smith wears himself out and starts to back up Rakic will move in for the kill. Should be a hell of a contest though.

Prediction: Aleksander Rakic, 2nd RD TKO

Robbie Lawler vs Neil Magny

I'm gonna be honest here, Lawler is my favourite fighter of all-time. Partly because I've grown up watching him fight and also because he has an awesome name. So there is a clear bias here. Like I said at the top, WAR LAWLER!!!

Prediction: Robbie Lawler, 2nd RD TKO

Alexa Grasso vs Ji Yeon Kim

I'm not quite sure why Grasso felt the need to move up in weight. She doesn't have any physical advantages in doing so and this fight is a good representation of that. However, she is better than Kim all-around and that will probably get her through this fight, but I say that begrudgingly. If Grasso wins she'll have to make it ugly.

Prediction: Alexa Grasso, Decision

Bill Algeo vs Ricardo Lamas

Lamas has seen better days, but even if he is half the fighter he once was he should be able to take out Algeo. Bigger puncher, better grappler, and Algeo doesn't have the power to pose much danger. I'll be shocked if Lamas loses this one.

Prediction: Ricardo Lamas, 3rd RD TKO

Magomed Ankalaev vs Ion Cutelaba

As if their last bout didn't give us one of the strangest, most awkward beginnings to a fight ever, the UFC decided to give us seconds...and I love it. Cutebala is a bonafide crazy man who is very much outgunned in this matchup, and even though the first fight was stopped a tad too early he was clearly getting pieced up. Ankalaev is the better fight and has a lot of upside, but anyone can be put to sleep, but that's about the only chance I'll give Cutelaba.

Prediction: Magomed Ankalaev, Decision
