UFC Vegas 15: Smith vs Clark Predictions

For the first time in a long time the UFC won't be the biggest show in town thanks to the return of Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr. And it seriously had me contemplating whether or not I'd stay true to this card. Well, despite me probably tuning into the circus in the later stages of the night, I figured I should show this card some love. So here we go.

Devin Clark vs Anthony Smith

This fight is better suited for a 3 round contest but an extra 2 rounds probably favours the one-time title challenger in Smith. However, after seeing him weigh-in he looks drained and seems to be holding less mass. Not that Smith was ever a bodybuilder, and maybe it's part of his game plan to carry less muscle, but he just didn't look like himself weighing in.

I think Clark could give Smith some problems, but if Smith is really serious about continuing his career at a high level he HAS to win this fight. He's the better striker and grappler, and it's a massive step down in competition for him. If Clark wins then put the rocket on him, but Lionheart should walk away victorious.

Prediction: Anthony Smith, 2nd RD SUB

Miguel Baeza vs. Takashi Sato

Baeza showed something against Brown in that he can come back when he's in serious trouble, and that may suit him well in this one. Sato is a sold counterpuncher who has the capability of ending the Brazilians night early. However, I think the only guys that are gonna give Baeza trouble are the ones that will bring the fight to him, Sato isn't that guy. Should be an entertaining fight, but I see Baeza edging this one out.

Prediction: Miguel Baeza, Decision

Josh Parisian vs. Parker Porter

Two big boys making noise! You love to see it.

Prediction: Josh Parisian, 1st RD TKO

Bill Algeo vs Spike Carlyle

The Alpha Ginger showed us two things in the Quantillo fight; He is explosive as all hell, and that he can make absolutely horrendous decisions . He lost that fight and I wouldn't be surprised if he lost this one too. Algeo has all the physical advantages one would want and is also as cool as they come. That could pay dividends given Carlyle's crazy style. If Algeo can ride out the storm he should be okay.

Decision: Bill Algeo, Decision

Ashlee Evans-Smith vs Norma Dumont Viana

Despite missing weight, I think Dumont is set up nicely to grab her first UFC win. A national Sambo champion in her home nation of Brazil, she has the look of someone who can eat women up with her strength and athleticism. She didn't show that against Megan Andersen, but not many do. Evans-Smith gets a little extra cash and Dumont gets the nod, win-win.

Prediction: Norma Dumont Viana, 2nd RD SUB

Kai Kamaka vs Jonathan Pearce

It'll be interesting to see if Pearce can give a better showing than his debut because he got blown out by Lauzon. But the task at hand won't be an easy one as he has to contend with the slick stylings of Kai Kamaka. Kai looked sharp in the the Kelley fight showing off his superior hand speed, but did fade late in the fight (probably due to Kelley being able to take an abundance of punishment).

I'd favour Kai's hand speed to bring him to the winner's circle in this one.

Prediction: Kai Kamaka, Decision
