UFC Vegas 33: Hall vs Strickland Predictions

A bare bones card calls for a bare bones predictions article, and quite frankly, one could have questioned airing this event at all given just how lacklustre pullouts and injuries have rendered it. It's not often Bellator outshines the UFC, but given McKee and Pitbull are squaring off for their version of the 155 belt tonight, UFC Vegas 33 is looking a little meek in comparison. At any rate, here are my predictions.

Uriah Hall vs Sean Strickland

Hall is in an odd place. He's coming off of back-to-back finishes, but I don't think he takes solace in retiring an old Anderson Silva or having Chris Weidman's leg snap in half moments into their fight. However, Hall has come a long way and is knocking on the door of the top 5 of the division. With a new mindset, and nice winning streak under his belt, who knows if the once prized prospect can make one last serious run at the title.

He takes on a surging Sean Strickland. Strickland is nothing if not well-rounded. I think if he can mix it up and lean on his wrestling to nullify Hall's high octane attacks. To be clear, he is the favourite, however I like Hall's chances of finishing this fight in violent fashion. This is going to be an intriguing matchup , and I'm looking forward to seeing Strickland's approach.

Prediction: Uriah Hall, 3RD RD TKO

Cheyanne Buys vs Gloria de Paula

Buys had a rocky start to her UFC career after all the hype she built for herself off of DWCS was shot away after a bitter loss to Ruiz. But hey, here she is again in a prime spot to get back in the win column against an underwhelming opponent in de Paula.

Prediction: Cheyanne Buys, Decision

Bryan Barberena vs Joe Witt

Nothing against Witt, but Barberena shouldn't have too much trouble in this fight. I mean, when you've been in there fighting guys like Vicente Luque and Randy Brown, guys like Witt just don't have the same weaponry to worry about so I think Bam Bam will cruise to an easy decision.

Prediction: Bryan Barberena, Decision

Rafa Garcia vs Chris Gruetzmacher

I know he fought in 2020, but I completely forgot Gruetzmacher was still on the UFC's payroll. And to be frank, I'll believe he can beat Garcia when I see it.

Prediction: Rafa Garcia, Decision

Melsik Baghdasaryan vs Collin Anglin

This has the potential to be a really great fight. Both guys are fresh off of DWCS wins so they'll want to come out and put on a show. Baghdasaryan is probably the more polished standup fighter given his kickboxing background, but Anglin has some pretty violent hands himself. Should be a fun fight, but I'll go with Melsik here.

Prediction: Melsik Baghdasaryan, Decision
